I stand here today wondering things. How did you become so big? You were 5 weeks premature when you were born and were 5 pounds each, about.
You’ve grown from these itty bitty babies who both fit together in the same crib.
To gigantic EIGHT YEAR OLD boys who still insist on sleeping in the same bed. It usually looks like a giant puppy pile in their bed between them and all of their toys.
As you turn 8, I have a letter for both of you.
Superman,
You are my first born, by all of two minutes. This picture is so you at this age. This past year has been a lot of fun. You’ve taken off in reading, and while you do not LOVE it, you are discovering you can read books on your own and enjoy it.
You are such a bundle of energy and joy. I love to see how much you are inspired by the fun of the world around you. You care so much about justice and fairness. You strive to understand how this world works.
This year you made me proud as you chose to be baptized and told everyone why you chose it. You made me proud as you went to camp for the first time without your parents. You made me proud as you helped your brother and sister in their reading.
I pray for this next year that you continue to grow in strength and wisdom (Luke 2:40). I pray your patience develops and you continue to be kind and gentle. I pray for your loving spirit to not be hurt by this world.
Batman,
You have always been a joy. You love to help so much. Of all my children, I know if I ask you to help you will come running with a smile on your face. That is such a wonderful trait you have.
You are mischievous. You love to play pranks, but you are not very good at it yet. For which I am thankful, I am in big trouble when you become good at it. You are creative, you constantly come up with new plans to do, and I love to see your plans.
I am so proud of how you’ve grown this year. Like your brother you chose to be baptized and tell everyone what you believe. Like your brother you also went to camp for the first time with your parents. You have become very responsible this year as you have become more aware of other’s feelings.
I pray you grow in strength and wisdom too. I pray you continue to walk the delicate balance of being playful and responsible. I pray you learn how to direct your strength as you grow. I pray for patience between you and Princess as you clash and struggle with your strong personalities.
I love you both.
I pray for myself as you continue to grow. I pray for wisdom in parenting you. I pray for the right words to comfort you when you are hurt. I pray for patience when I am tired and don’t want to play games. I pray for strength to not give in when you need correction.
I thank God for both of you, you have grown me as a woman and as a mother in so many ways.
Luke 2:19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
