Happy 16th birthday boys!

I’m still trying to figure out just how this happened, but my boys turn 16 tomorrow. It’s weird to think about.

After 10 years of birthday posts, I don’t have a lot original to say

Boys you continue to amaze me with the young men you’re becoming. You regularly amazed me with your maturity.

Then you turn around and do something so crazy it’s like you’re a young child again.

Hello my younger twin,

You hate being reminded of that.

You listen to audiobooks as you pace.

If I need a kid to do something, I pick you because I know you will do it.

I try very hard not to take advantage of that.

You apologize for things that make no sense to apologize for, and it’s kind of amusing to tease you about it, and you take it with your usual good grace.

This past year you’ve changed your mind on what you want to be when you grow up. After the fire station field trip you were fascinated about a career where you could help people, so you’ve been working to find out what you should do to start that career, college classes, exercise, looking at joining the army. You’ve worked hard at that.

You’re an awesome young man, and I’m proud of you.

Hello my older twin,

Amusingly enough, when we create gaming characters you always make the younger sibling. I’m right there with you.

In many ways you have the same whimsy I do. You are silly and fun.

There are other areas where you are so unlike me it’s amazing. You don’t really enjoy cooking, and won’t starve when you leave the house in a few years, but you certainly won’t be a gourmet chef. You are not into any form of art/music/crafts.

Except painting gaming figures. You know, the one hobby I’ve made zero attempt to pick up.

When you are interested in a book, you disappear into it like I do. I’m curious what you’ll think of the two dystopian books I got you for your birthday.

You currently want to be a video game programmer. You’re really enjoying your MyTek classes, and I’m debating if I’ll have you continue that next fall or take classes at the local community college.
